We appreciate some Christians' perspectives and their commitment to faith in God's higher ways. Indeed, recognizing that God's thoughts are higher than our thoughts is foundational (Isaiah 55:8-9). However, it's important to understand that growing in Bible knowledge and seeking answers to difficult questions is not about questioning God or undermining faith. Rather, it's about deepening our understanding of His revealed Word and strengthening our faith.
The Bible encourages us to seek knowledge and wisdom. Proverbs 2:3-5 says, "Yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of Jehovah and find the knowledge of God." Similarly, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 emphasizes the importance of Scripture for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness. David himself, whom you mentioned, sought to understand God's Word deeply. In Psalm 119:105, he wrote, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." David's faith was informed and enriched by his diligent study and meditation on God's Word.
Having faith and seeking knowledge are not mutually exclusive. Faith is strengthened through understanding God's promises and commands, as Paul writes in Romans 10:17, "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." While faith involves trust in what we do not fully see or understand (Hebrews 11:1), it is also built on the solid foundation of God's revealed truth. By addressing and resolving Bible difficulties, we equip ourselves to defend our faith more effectively (1 Peter 3:15) and help others grow in their understanding. It’s not about having all the answers but about being diligent in our study of Scripture and relying on God's wisdom to guide us through challenging passages. Embracing both faith and knowledge allows us to marvel at God's greatness while growing closer to Him through His Word. It's a balance that honors God’s sovereignty and His desire for us to know Him deeply.
